We have returned!
We had a great trip. Joshua only acted like an ass on the first day, but then his behavior got much better. I do believe that if my mother was not with us he would have been even better. Speaking of mothers. She was more annoying than he was! Omg. Five days straight with my mom on a road trip is a bit much.
My son was a chatterbox the entire time. However annoying and nerve wracking that was...at least he wasn't a demon child. And he was wanting to talk about interesting things. Over and over and over. Only rehashing the same points a hundred and ten times. He said last night that he was so very quiet during the trip. The rest of us guffawed.
I had a few bummer moments on the trip, but I will work those out with my therapist today and all will be fine.
Our pets are happy we are home. They all survived. We probably missed them more than they missed us. Our fish gave us a bit of the cold shoulder at first but now they are warming up to us again.
Jason has the rest of the week off. I am disappointed that we have things to do during that time. I would opt out of my groups tomorrow but that is a hard one for me. It is really something I look forward to each week and is very helpful for me. Plus, with Joshua off for the summer, Fridays might be iffy for me in the future anyway. Hopefully Jason and I can make the best of the time we have while he is home.
So, I am going to end this blog with the reality check after the vacation glow. We emptied our mailbox last night. There, among the crap, was the Comcast cable bill. I tore the envelope open expecting to see the usual over the top amount. My eyes bugged out of my head when I saw the over over the top amount. I told Jason that we could no longer afford cable, the price kept going up and it was ridiculous. It was almost $100 more than what we normally pay. He took a look at the breakdown and "what the hell?" came from his lips. There was a list of porn movies that had been ordered in a three day period. Almost $100 worth. As we spoke in shock regarding this issue, our wonderful horomone surging chatterbox teenager fell very quiet. We turned toward him as his head hung down looking in a drawer for something imaginary. Then he said "oh, you can see that"? Ya think?? Fucking genius. Jason began to slowly explode. I took a deep breath and stopped the conversation. It was about 9pm, we were tired from the long drive, I had no energy to deal with any of it. I said to put it all on hold until today. None of us could think clearly at that point anyway. We needed time to digest this. The main thing that Joshua does understand is that he owes us $100. Since he has a savings account with a couple hundred in it, we will take out our payment. Jason took apart his TV and cable in his room and Joshua knows that there will be no TV privledges for a while. He wasn't supposed to be able to get that movie option in his room anyway! Today Joshua has an appointment with his therapist. The first one in a few months. (an insurance issue) Jason will be taking the cable bill with the highlighted box of porn movies and presenting it to Scott. Then he will ask Scott what suggestions he has for consequences. Joshua's therapist is pretty tough on Joshua so this should be interesting. Joshua was told prior to the road trip that we would have a family day at Dave & Buster's for his good behavior before we left. He had a week with no x's on his behavior chart. That will be one of the treat things taken away.
So there it is, folks! A teen being a teen. I snuck a few movies as a teenager, but they were free. If you held the rabbit ears just right and turned the knob to the highest channel on my little tv in my room you could get in some scratchy light core porn movies really really late at night. At least until the blipping horizontal bar took over the screen and you couldn't make out the body parts any longer. Gotta love these strides in technology. No more stealing your parents' dirty magazines and books, no more tuning in the free skin flick channel on the choppy high channel...it's all at your fingertips at the click or push of a button. All appears on a screen in front of you loud and clear. It's a shame really. No more hard work for the good stuff. Seems like less of a payoff. What you used to be able to hide and sneak and have to jump over buildings for you can have in seconds. It's just another way we are making our kids lazy!
Yikes!! Now he knows what the good stuff looks like...
